About the role
We need a senior-level electrical engineer who can split time between working remotely and being on site in Orange County, CA. The project centers on motor-control electronics — every board you design must reliably drive, sense, and protect a variety of motors under real-world loads.
You'll be responsible for delivering a production ready PCB and firmware.
KiCad or similar professional CAD tools are fine, as long as output files remain fully editable.
Remote Responsibilities
- Draw the schematic and capture the BOM for a new motor-control PCB, selecting components that meet cost, thermal, and EMI constraints
- Lay out the board for manufacturability, noise immunity, QC testing, and serviceability, then generate all fabrication, assembly files, and test procedures
On-site Responsibilites
- Oversee prototype builds, bring the hardware up in the lab, and run functional, thermal, and load tests on our existing motor rigs
- When issues surface, dive into trace analysis, oscilloscopes, and firmware to isolate root causes, revise the design, and verify the fix
- Document each revision so the design can move smoothly into small-batch production
What success looks like
- The board passes bench tests and handles specified loads without issues
- The design is delivered to production with complete, clean documentation: schematic, layout, Gerbers, pick-and-place, test procedure, test report, and revision log
Skills required
- Electronics and electrical engineering
- Circuit design and PCB layout
- Motor control and embedded firmware
- Signal processing and thermal analysis
- Clear, thorough documentation habits
Logistics
A few on-site days each month in Orange County, CA; remote otherwise. If that works for you, let's talk schedules and milestones.
