Babsco SpoolPro

Overview

SpoolPro is a custom wire spooling machine designed and fabricated by SHAKO for Babsco. We took the machine from a process problem on the floor to a scalable product: mechanical design, motion and controls, fabrication, and production.

The challenge

Wire spooling was a manual, operator-dependent process — inconsistent, time consuming, and hard on the people doing it. Babsco needed a machine matched to their actual product and throughput.

What we did

• Studied the existing process on the floor and defined the machine around real product, real operators, and real cycle times
• Designed the mechanical system — frame, drive, tensioning, and traverse — for serviceability with standard parts wherever possible
• Built out the controls and operator interface so changeovers are simple and repeatable
• Fabricated, assembled, and commissioned the machine, then iterated with operator feedback

Outcome

A production spooling machine that runs consistently shift after shift, removing a manual bottleneck and freeing operators for higher-value work. SpoolPro is now a product in Babsco's lineup — see the SpoolPro product page.
